HOW TO: Installing Linux on Your PS3

Okay, so you are one of the lucky few who got their grubby little hands on a PS3…good for you! ps3.jpgYou’ve played all the games, watched Talladega Nights on Blu Ray, and even viewed pictures of your latest trip to the zoo (to visit your mother in law) on your HD TV. Having done all of this, you are only left with one monstrous question…what the hell am I going to do until Heavenly Sword comes out? Well, if you are a tech geek like me, one of the most interesting things that you heard when they were announcing features for the PS3 was that it was going to be fully capable of running other operating systems, namely Linux. Well, with the release of Yellow Dog Linux 5.0, the Playstation 3 has taken its first steps on fulfilling this promise. This guide will help you install the open source OS on your system where you can take advantage of built in features such as Open Office (does all the same fun stuff as Microsoft Office), FireFox, and GAIM.

Before you get started, you should grab a couple things that will make your life easier.

1. USB mouse and keyboard

2. USB Drive, Memory Card or Blank CD

3. Blank DVD
